Muslim Press in Areas Forming Pakistan

0

Muslim Press in Areas Forming Pakistan Print journalism made its advent in the sub-continent in the last quarter of the 18th century. The first (English) newspaper, The Calcutta General Advertiser was started by Mr. James Augustus Hicky in 1780. It came to be known as Hickys Gazette. Several other newspapers, mostly weeklies or fortnightlies and monthlies, appeared from Calcutta, Bombay and Madras. All of those papers were started by the Europeans for the Europeans with obviously limited circulations. In size they were all tabloid. The local language press made its appearance in the first quarter of the 19th century. The first such newspapers used Bengali as its medium. The Muslims were generally far behind the Christians and the Hindus socially, educationally and financially. Moreover, they were not strong in the eastern areas. They had some hold in northern India where they entered the field in the second quarter of the 19th century. The first Urdu newspaper, Syed-ul-Akhbar, appeared from Delhi in 1836 followed by the Delhi Urdu Akhbar in 1837. Many other Urdu newspapers appeared from Delhi, Lukhnow, Lahore and Multan etc.

The Muslim press had-just started taking strides when it was overtaken by the war of Independence in 1857. The failure of the freedom struggle came as a crushing blow for the Muslims. In the pre-partition Punjab English journalism was monopalised by non-Muslim enthusiasts and with their exit after the establishment of Pakistan an urgent need for a powerful and financially sound Muslim English daily was felt. This need was met by the Pakistan Times. Its first publication, February 4, 1947, almost synchronized with the start of the civil disobedience movement by the Muslim League. This paper was sponsored by Mian Iftikharuddin, who, after establishing a publishing concern known as The Progressive Papers limited, was soon able to secure the sympathy and cooperation of nearly all those who were in the high command of the Punjab Muslim League at that time.

The Effects of Smoking on Bodybuilding

0

Looking to take your bodybuilding endeavors to the next level by finally putting down those nasty cigarettes but need the motivation and some information to give you that push you need to quit? Well then, dear smoker, you are at the right place!

We all know that smoking is bad for you, and that it hampers your training progression. Here is a list of reasons why quitting smoking will help you to get bigger, stronger and fitter.

Smoking Harms Blood Sugar Levels

Nicotine causes a quick, short-term release of blood sugar. This is one of the reasons why smoking often leads to diabetes. It also lowers insulin sensitivity, which means that your body is less able to handle sugar and energy production. The less your body is able to create and utilize energy, the less energy you have during workouts and you get tired quicker. Your strength is also hampered, which means that if you didn’t smoke, you would probably be able to lift heavier weights, for more reps, for a longer period of time, causing a greater stimulus leading to greater muscle gains. Insulin helps to regulate sugar and therefore energy. Because your body is less able to regulate energy, it is less able to perform other functions that require energy that it needs to do to adapt and grow muscle, such as filling muscles with glycogen (the energy in the muscle that enables it to work). Because energy is already lowered in smokers, their bodies take longer to change from a stress-induced state that exercise causes to the anabolic, repairing state that grows muscle and strength. When the body stays longer in this stress-induced state, it will start breaking down muscle as a survival mechanism for energy and nutrients.

Smoking affects Your Breathing and Oxygen Levels

One of the most important roles of the lungs is to take in oxygen from the surrounding air and expel carbon dioxide out. Smoking physically damages the lungs, and also progressively smothers the lungs with tar. Additionally, the lungs are also too busy trying to heal and clean themselves out to function optimally. This greatly reduces the amount of oxygen that the body has at its disposal and the amount of carbon dioxide it can get rid of. This leads to decreased energy and strength, lengthened recovery times needed between workouts and a lowered ability for muscle to grow and adapt from stimulus.

Carbon Monoxide and other Toxins

Smoking increases the amount of carbon monoxide in the blood, along with other toxins. The naked eye can see the different between the blood of a smoker and that of a non-smoker. The blood of smokers is thicker and darker than that of non-smokers. If you think about blood and veins as a road which acts as the body’s delivery system, then the carbon monoxide and other toxins can be seen as elephants in the road that take up a space that is not designed to accommodate them. They get in the way of the other vehicles and stop them from doing their job properly, turning an efficient road into peak traffic on damaged roads. The body is also less able to respond the way we want it to with weight training because it is busy fighting off and trying to cope with these harmful chemicals. For example, these chemicals place an unnecessary burden on the liver and kidneys which are metabolizing and eliminating these chemicals, on top of regulating and creating chemicals needed for growth.

Smokers Get More Sick

Smokers get sick more often than non-smokers, and when they fall ill, they are sick for longer and experience worse symptoms. We all know about the terror of falling sick and being unable to gym, as well as feeling like we are losing all the strength and size gains we have worked so hard to get. Getting sick more often means that your body spends less time in the gym, and less time growing from strength to strength and the worse symptoms mean that you suffer greater setbacks every time you get sick.

Smoking Disrupts Eating and Diet Habits

Eating the amounts of food you need in order to gain mass can sometimes be challenging. The increased appetite from quitting smoking is a great chance to stock up on the extra calories that you need to increase muscle growth. In the long term, smoking will no longer interfere with your appetite and blood sugar levels.

Sleep

Smokers not only need more hours of sleep than non-smokers, but their sleep is of less quality. One reason for this is because their bodies spend a lot of time trying to cope with the demands placed on it from smoking. Another reason is because of the nicotine withdrawal they go through while sleep. Getting better quality sleep as a non-smoker means that your body is better able to recover and grow muscle every night you sleep.

Recovering From Smoking Instead of Growing

As mentioned earlier, smoking placed a big burden on the body and the body is in a constant battle to deal with its harmful effects and survive. This energy that the body spends counteracting the negative effects of smoking would be much better spent building muscle.

Smoking and Focus during Workouts

Smokers are less able to concentrate because they are in constant withdrawal from nicotine. This withdrawal starts a few minutes after their last cigarette and builds up as time goes by. Withdrawals usually get to a point where people start craving another cigarette after 30 minutes, which is why the average person smokes a box (20 cigarettes) a day. As time drags on, withdrawals intensify, leading to symptoms like thirst, moodiness, dropped sugar levels, lack of concentration etc. These withdrawals mean that smokers are generally not as able as non-smokers to focus 100% on their entire workout program.

Smokers Take Longer to Build Muscle and Reach Greater Levels of Fitness than Non-smokers

Can you grow muscle if you smoke? Yes. Can you get bigger muscles than most people who go to the gym if you smoke?  Yes. Can you compete in bodybuilding competitions and have a successful bodybuilding career as a smoker? Yes. Can you do all these things with the same amount of time and energy compared to if you didn’t smoke? No. You can still get there, but the road will be longer and tougher.

Rather quit smoking and give your body every fighting chance that you can to reach your goals as quick as possible. STAY STRONG!

Increase Your Max Bench Press

0

So youve hit a point where you cant seem to increase your bench press? Dont worry; it happens to all of us as some point. There are many things that you can do to get back on track to building a bigger chest and growing muscle strength. Here are a few suggestions.

Take It Easy

Have you been training hard for too long without taking a few days rest? Perhaps your muscles are getting tired with accumulated stress over time and all you need is a good rest so that they can fully recover before reaching maximum recuperation and increased strength. There are times when after a few days off I come back to the gym bigger and stronger than ever. You should take a rest week every 2 months or so.

Check Your Frequency

Are you working the bench often enough? Or are you hitting it more than you should? Aim for once to twice a week for great gains and make sure that each workout puts enough stress on your muscles so that they are tired the day afterwards. If they arent tired the day afterwards then it is time to change up your chest exercises to make sure that they keep adapting and that they keep growing as in response.

Change Your rep Range

Have you been using the same 8-12 rep range for months already? Try using a lower rep range like 5-8 for a month or two and see the difference. Or switch to the higher 15-20 rep range to keep your muscles growing. It is best to alternate between the three rep ranges. Change it up every few months so that your muscles will develop a variety of rep strengths and keep adapting to different stimulus (and therefore gaining size). Changing rep ranges will increase the bench press max of your original rep range because the muscle will have to grow in strength to adapt to the new kind of stress placed on it.

Vary Your Exercises

Dont do the barbell bench press on its own and expect your chest to grow to its full potential. Include other exercises like dumbbell bench press, dips, cable crossovers, dumbbell pull-overs and dumbbell flies. This will grow the entirety of your chest to its best potential. Every few months, change the exercises up again by changing the order in which you do the exercises, adding incline or decline exercises, and changing all the exercises for other chest exercises altogether.

Change Your Grip

Changing your grip (the way you hold the bar) will help to develop other muscles that might not usually get as much stimulus for the bench press but are still crucial to performing the lift. These muscles include your forearms, and even parts of the triceps, shoulders and chest itself. When these muscles are stressed more and strengthened by changing your grip for a period of time, they will be more capable of supporting your original bench press, therefore helping you beat your max.

Strengthen Your Supporting Muscles

What if the weaker triceps or shoulders are the culprits that are limiting your bench results? Weaker triceps, for example, will tire before your chest muscles get the decent workout they deserve and therefore you stop before they get the stimulus needed to grow at their best. Try strengthening these supporting muscles so that your chest has all the time it needs to work its magic under the bar.

Check Your Diet

In order for muscle to grow, your calorie intake needs to exceed your calorie expenditure (what else would they grow from if all the food you eat is burnt up as energy?) Besides that, are you eating the right foods that your muscles need to grow, along with the right nutrients to sustain the energy you need to perform the workouts that cause muscle growth in the first place, without forcing your body to dip into its muscle reservoir? This is why it is easier for bodybuilders to work in bulking and cutting cycles because it us safer to take in too much calories to build muscle than taking in too few calories which hampers (and can even reverse) muscle growth.

Hows Your ZZZ Balance?

Getting enough sleep is crucial to growing muscle strength and size. Most of your muscle growth happens during sleep. If you are not getting enough shut eye, your body will prioritize other functions that happen during sleep over muscle growth to survive. Lack of sleep could lead to quicker over-training, lack of motivation, and worst of all... lost gains.

Make sure all the above are in check and you should be well on the road to constant muscle growth in size and strength. STAY STRONG!

Development Of Press In Pakistan

0

Development Of Press In Pakistan
The development of the institution of press in Pakistan as a whole is unprecedented. Despite difficult problems the press has developed a great deal in the following directions:
1. Number of newspapers
At the time of partition the total number of Muslim newspapers and periodicals in the areas forming Pakistan did not exceed 200. Now there are about 1500 newspapers and journals.
2. Increase in circulation
Before independence the average circulation of a daily newspaper was three to four thousand. Now the established newspapers have circulations ranging between hundred fifty thousand and two hundred thousand. Even the less established newspapers have a circulation of about 25000 copies. 3. The pages and the contents of the newspapers and periodicals have substantially increased. 4. All newspapers publish special editions almost every day. They also publish special Friday magazines. 5. The make-up techniques have totally changed. With the arrival of computer in major newspapers a revolution has taken place in the entire production process.
6. Many newspapers and journals have commercially consolidated their position.
7. The volume of advertisements has increased manifold.
8. Regional press has also developed a great deal.
9. A new kind of journalism has emerged in the form of digest journalism, agricultural journalism, medical journalism, etc. All major organizations publish house journals.
10. Major publishing houses are now running chain newspapers. They are publishing editions from several centres simultaneously. Dawn, the Pakistan Times, Nation, Frontier Post, Jang, Nawa-i-Waqt and Mashriq are appearing from more than one centre.
11. Urdu press has achieved phenomenal progress.
12. The salary structure of working journalists has improved to a great extent. Their working conditions are also far better now.
13. Urdu newspapers have switched over to the electronic system. The production techniques have also changed. Before 1947 the readership of the Urdu press was limited. Now the newspapers cater to the tastes of al classes of people. They reflect the wishes and aspirations of the people in general. Special pages for women, children, sports, artists and youth are published almost every day which has given impetus to social change. Unlike the past, the press does not serve the elite only. Talented persons from all walks of life find representation in the newspapers. The new spirit of journalism aims at all-round progress of society. One major change is visible in our newspapers. Generally they can survive without politics as they have survived lengthy martial law regimes. The extensive coverage provided by newspapers to peoples activities in all segments of society reflects the expanding role of media in our country. Radio and T.V. networks are also expanding rapidly. Simultaneous expansion in public relations and advertising is complementary to the growth of the press. There is unusual stress on national consciousness. The problems of the people are consistently highlighted.

Independence Muslim press in the South Asian

0

Past History The per-lndeperidence Muslim press in the South Asian Sub-Continent had its leading lights in the form of powerful independent newspapers like Hamdard and Zamindar. The proud names of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar and Maulana Zafar Ali Khan stand out prominently in the annals of Muslim journalism. The Star of India (Calcutta, 1937), Morning News (Calcutta, 1942), Dawn (Delhi, 1945) and the Pakistan Times (Lahore, 1947), were great exponents of the Muslim cause for the creation of Pakistan. , These efforts were usefully supplemented by valuable services rendered by some of the newspapers brought out from distincts. When Pakistan appeared on the map of the world on August 14, 1947, there were only two English dailies published from Lahore, The Pakistan Times, founded by the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and Civil & Military Gazette (now defunct)
and two Urdu dailies Nawa-i-Waqt and Zamindar, the latter having ceased publication after a few years. Dawn started appearing as a weekly from Delhi in 1942 and later on became a daily in 1945. After the establishment of Pakistan, it shifted to Karachi. Two Urdu dailies, Jung and Anjam, originally appearing from Delhi, also shifted to Karachi soon after Independence.
Despite the difficulties and paucity of technical know-how and finances, the Press in Pakistan moved forward slowly but steadily. According to the Press Information Department figures published by the National Press Trust in 1987, the total number of newspapers and periodicals in the country has risen to 1278 including 124 dailies. The range and depth in their coverage of news and views vary from those of local to national and international importance. Some of the newspapers have their international editions. The press in Pakistan is getting a new fillip with the increasing availability of new technology.
